Hand Sewn Blue Ensigns

Hand sewn United Kingdom blue ensign flags are made to MoD & Flag Institute standard patterns by cutting panels of the required colours from a roll of fabric, before being sewn together by our skilled flagmakers to create the official pattern. National flag designs with complex details will have a printed panel or badge added to the main field of the flag.

Who Can Fly a Blue Ensign?

In order to fly the blue ensign at sea you must meet all of the following criteria;

You must be a British citizen and a member of the Royal Torbay Yacht Club.
The minimum length of your vessel must be at least 7m and be registered in your name.
Only be used for private, non commercial use.

What does the blue ensign mean?

The plain blue ensign is flown on British merchant vessels whose officers and crew include a certain number of retired Royal Navy personnel or Royal Naval Reservists, or are commanded by an officer of the Royal Naval Reserve in possession of a Government warrant.
