New County Durham flag is Unveiled at Durham Cathedral

Durham FlagCounty Durham has a new county flag which has now been registered with the Flag Institute’s UK Flag Registry.

The  design incorporates St Cuthbert’s Cross which represents the Anglo Saxon bishop, scholar and patron saint of northern England. In addition the new flag design also incorporates the coat of arms palatinate colours of blue and yellow.

Durham Cathedral was the most fitting place to unveil the newly chosen design as  this is the place where St. Cuthbert is buried.

Congratulations to Katie, Holly and James Moffatt from Chilton, County Durham whose design was chosen for the new flag. Katie and Holly are shown holding the new design in front of the Cathedral on the day it was raised and blessed for the first time.
