Rio Passes the Olympic Flag to Tokyo

The closing ceremony of this year’s Olympics saw the standard process of passing the Olympic flag. The unique flag which flies throughout the Olympics was slowly lowered to go back into hiding until the next summer games.

The usual Olympic flag ceremonies were adopted in the closing ceremony with the Brazil flag been slowly lowered with the Japan flag flying symbolising they will be the next country to fly the Olympic flag.

Japan will be hosting the games in Tokyo and sent a very special guest to Rio to oversee proceedings… Super Mario! The gaming giant optimises everything we think when we think Japan. Sadly, Mario was without his right-hand man Luigi but still wowed crowds at the closing ceremony.

Watch highlights of the ceremony on the video below – skip to 2:40 to see the lowering of the Olympic flag and to 3:15 to spot Mario’s guest appearance.
