As part of our work with the UK Parliament to create the fantastic Parliament Square display for the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta, we are showcasing each of the flags created by school children from throughout the country. This flag design comes from St. Blane’s Primary School in Lanarkshire.

“Our design was inspired by a range of different influences. Coming from a mining community – Blantyre – we decided to incorporate an emblem to recognise the mining disaster and remember those who lost their lives.
We as a school are also part of an Anti-Sectarian project where we are working to create a peaceful culture free from religious prejudice and so within our Mining Wheel we included a peace symbol.
The blue and green coloured sections of our flag signify Scotland’s green landscape and the blue represents the blue of the Saltire flag. Moreover it also represents the colours used in our Anti-Sectarian community project.
29 children took part in the design process.”
