As part of our work with the UK Parliament to create the fantastic Parliament Square display for the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta, we are showcasing each of the flags created by school children from throughout the country. This flag design comes from St Catherine’s Primary School, Surrey.

“Our flag was inspired by our rural locality and our school values. The dark blue is our school uniform and the night sky. The stars are both the stars we can see at night and our school values of Tolerance-red, Caring-orange, Teamwork-Purple, Respect-Blue, Honesty-Green and Self-discipline-Yellow; these values underpin everything we do and are very important to the school and its community.
The tree represents the beautiful countryside around us; the green and the wavy blue bands are the surrey hills and rivers; the oak leaf shows that Tandridge, where our school is, is part of Surrey.
The light blue represents the sky above us and the white is for Peace and Harmony. All children were invited to design a flag from which 8 were short-listed. The whole school was then involved in voting for the winning design. Finally a team made up of the 8 short-listed children then worked on the final design.”
