Our Guyana flags are produced in the traditional 2:1 ratio used for National flags in the UK so this flag will match others of the same size if you are flying several flags together. We use a MOD grade Knitted Polyester which has been tested for its durability and suitability for production of flags.

Brief History

In 1875 Guyana became a British colony. The flag flown was a blue British ensign with Union Flag in the top left hand corner and a disk depicting a galley on the ocean on the centre right side.

In 1906 the flag was changed slightly to a yellow-bordered oval shape on a white circular background. The white disk was removed in 1919.

In 1955 a white disk and shield depicting a galley replaced the oval emblem and a banner stating “DAMUS PETIMUSQUE VICISSIM” was added underneath.

In 1966 A newly independent Guyana adopted a new flag. It featured A green field with a red black-bordered triangle in front of a longer yellow white-bordered triangle. There is a civil flag, which is the same design, is a 1:2 proportion rather than 3:5 of the national flag.

The green field symbolises the forests of Guyana, red is the passion of the people, black border represents the endurance of the people, gold triangle represents the wealth of the country and the white symbolises water.

The Coat of Arms of Guyana

The Coat of Arms of Guyana was adopted in 1966.

The design features a shield with three blue wavy lines in the centre, the Victoria regia lily above and the Canje Pheasant below.

To the left the shield is a jaguar holding a pickaxe and to the right is a jaguar holding a sugar cane.

Above is an Amerindian headdress on top of a helmet and Below is a banner stating “ONE PEOPLE, ONE NATION, ONE DESTINY”.

The Lesser Coat of Arms of Guyana

The lesser coat of arms of Guyana is also the coat of arms of the president. It is a shield with three blue wavy lines in the centre, the Victoria regia lily above and the canje Pheasant. Above the shield is an Amerindian headdress.

The Flag of the Guyana Defence Force

The Flag of the Guyana Defence Force features a plain green field with the golden badge of the Guyana Defence force with the canje pheasant at the centre.

The Variant Flag of Guyana

The Variant Flag of Guyana is the British Civil Air Ensign, a sky blue field with a white-bordered blue cross, with the national flag in the top left corner.

The Flag of the Guyana Prison Service

The Flag of the Guyana Prison Service is a plain green field with the coat of arms of the Guyana Prison Service at the centre.

The Guyana Prison Service coat of arms contains crossed white keys, laurel, Amerindian headdress and text stating “GUYANA PRISON SERVICE”.

The Flag of the Guyana Police Force

The Flag of the Guyana Police Force is a red and blue diagonal bicolour with 7 different coloured circles on the left hand side and the coat of arms of the police force, featuring a Jaguar holding a sugar cane, in the centre.
