The Flags and Heraldry Committee (FHC) is an all-party parliamentary group of the United Kingdom Parliament. Formally established in only February 2008 the group is comprised of MP’s and peers from across the political spectrum who wish to promote the flying of flags associated with the United Kingdom. The FHC liaises regularly with experts for advice upon heraldry and vexillology (the study of history, symbolism and usage of flags).
The group aims to educate the wider public upon flag protocol and coordinate Flags and Heraldic matters across the UK. The group more widely acts as an advisor on how to correctly and appropriately fly flags.
Flagmakers is glad to support the committee and will gladly offer our advice if required, our vast knowledge of flags and flagpoles has made us a great contact in the past. A particular event we were delighted to see success with was the Committee Chairman’s campaign to have a Union Flag fly over the Victoria Tower of Parliament all year round. It is now a pleasure to see a flag where we believe it should be! For more on this story read this article.
Flagmakers will continue to support and be involved in this committee and others which encourage us all to fly flags and to do so appropriately and safely. We believe in taking pride in our Union and any other flag for that matter!
